Apte has direct responsibility for all of Citi’s businesses in South Asia, including Singapore, Australia, India and ASEAN. He took on his current role in 2009 after serving as CEO of Citi's Central and Eastern European regional business, which includes some of the fastest-growing emerging markets. Previously, he was CEO of Central and Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa, and Citi Markets and Banking. Apte was instrumental in Citigroup’s acquisition of Bank Handlowy, Poland in 2000 and led its merger with Citigroup. He has more than 28 years’ experience with Citi, starting as relationship manager with Citibank in India.
