Amirsham Aziz
Aziz spent 31 years at Maybank, Malaysia'a biggest bank, retiring as its president and CEO in 2008. Under his leadership, Maybank introduced new products to the local market instead of aggressively seeking deposit and loan growth by undercutting competitors, resulting in a recurrent revenue stream from non-fund based activities which was among the best in the industry. Aziz also built one of the strongest Islamic banking businesses in East Asia and pushed hard to penetrate new markets outside Malaysia. He also spearheaded targeted acquisitions such as the Malaysian National Insurance and American Express credit card portfolio in Malaysia.
