Ishrat Husain
As governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) from 1999 to December 2005, Husain led the country’s banking sector out on a path of vibrancy and competitiveness.
During Husain’s watch, SBP adopted the well-known CAMELS risk management inspection standard and implemented a daily bank surveillance system. SBP also took a series of measures to combat money laundering and terrorist financing, such as aligning its regulations to the Financial Action Task Force and reducing the number of moneychangers in the country.
Prior to his appointment as SBP governor, Husain served at the World Bank for 20 years in various capacities.
