eading Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) since 1999,  Suraphongchai turned it from just another struggling Thai bank into the new face of Thai retail banking. In 2006, he  unveiled the bank’s third Change Programme vision, helping the bank take market leadership in several key segments, such as asset management, mortgage loans, credit cards, business cash management, and the new area of bancassurance. It was also well on its way to becoming the country’s largest by market capitalisation, which it became on February 20, 2007, even as it became Thailand’s third largest by assets with its acquisition of Siam Leasing.
