Johnny Mao
Mao is the chief risk officer at the Bank of East Asia, Hong Kong’s fifth largest by assets and one of the first in several years to suffer a bank run and a smear campaign after the Lehman brothers collapse. However, Mao spearheaded a campaign to improve the bank’s standing in the face of these reputation risks to assure investors and customers alike that there was a higher scrutiny of funds flowing in and out of the bank. The bank was one of the first in Hong Kong to become Basel II compliant and Mao played an integral role in helping the bank attain that status.
