Atiur Rahman
Rahman was appointed governor of Bangladesh Bank, the country’s central bank, for a four-year tenure on May 1, 2009. A renowned economist, he was a professor of economics at the University of Dhaka and also served as the director of Sonali Bank, the largest commercial bank in Bangladesh and chairman of the board of directors of Janata Bank, the second largest commercial bank in the country. He had a long tenure as a senior research fellow at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies. As of 2009, he has published 45 books, 16 of which are in English and 29 in Bangla.
